With live music from the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands, the dancer, choreographer and director of the National Dance Company José Carlos Martínez has created this spectacular Don Quijote in three acts that is the first choreography of a complete classical ballet that the National Dance Company has incorporated in 25 years. Since its acclaimed premiere in 2015 at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, the piece has been performed all over the world, generating applause along the way. Martínez, Principal Dancer of the Paris Opera Ballet and winner of the National Dance Prize, has recovered this vision of Don Quijote which poeticises the figure of the Knight in his quest for the perfect love, embodied in his fantasy by Dulcinea from a perspective that respects the essence of Spanish culture and dance. Based on the famous score by Ludwig Minkus, Martínez has created a choreography inspired by the famous romantic versions of Petipa and Groski. There is spectacular stage design and costumes, a vibrant rhythm and impeccable execution in what Julia Martín (El Mundo) has called “The most successful of the classical ballet productions that can be seen”.
