Els ulls dels altres

Last July, the I Premi Mallorca de Dramatúrgia (First Mallorca Prize for Dramaturgy) was announced, summoned by the Department of Culture, Heritage and Sports of the Consell de Mallorca by means of the Teatre Principal de Palma, with the aim to promote the creation of dramatic texts in the Catalan language and encouraging creativity in the framework of the performing arts.

The winning work was Els ulls dels altres, by Sadurní Vergés.

The selection committee assessed the rigour of the text, the strength of the structure, the innovative nature of the work, the coherence between the implicit intentions it reveals and the results it achieves, as well as its feasibility in terms of staging.

Sadurní Vergés graduated in Dramatic Art in the speciality of Dramaturgy from the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona. He is a graduate of English Translation and Interpretation and has achieved studies in Cultural Management and Literature. He has trained in dramaturgy and stage direction under the guidance of playwrights like Victoria Szpunberg, Pere Riera, Marc Rosich and Carles Batlle and directors like Magda Puyo, Roberto Romei and Carlota Subirós. He has also taken dramaturgy courses with Paco Zarzoso.

He directed a group of Lithuanian actors in the creation of the show Identity or Death? in 2016, which was presented in Italy and Lithuania as part of the Kilowatt Festival. He has directed a text by Angelica Liddell, La falsa suicida, which was part of the season of the Teatre La Vilella in Barcelona. He has adapted Raymond Carver’s works for the stage and has written and directed his own texts, such as Rosa mutabilis, which was present in different Catalan towns in 2017.
