One of the most acclaimed titles of the baroque music.
Dido and Aeneas is considered to be one of the capital musical works of the baroque. Its date of creation is still uncertain, even though it is known that it was not written before 1688.
With Henry Purcell’s music and the English poet Nahum Tate’s libretto, Dido and Aeneas tells the love story between the queen of Cartago Dido, and the Trojan hero Aeneas.
The premiere took place in the school Josias Priest of London in the summer of 1688, although its commercial release did not arrive until 1700 also in the British capital city. It was not released in Spain until 1956 in the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona.
