La extinta poética (extinct poetics) is a production from the company 9 de 9, in cheerful collaboration with Paco de la Zaranda, director of the legendary Andalusian company that in 2010 won the Premio Nacional de Teatro (Spanish national theatre prize) and the playwright Eusebio Calonge. La extinta poética is a punch to a consumerist society that needs, at the same time, pills to tranquillise as well as pills to stimulate, requires the drug of television as well as unloading adrenaline with sports. And, in the midst of all this, the poetry that emerges as a suppressed Ophelia, as the final swan song, as a search for beauty in a rotten society. The production presents a family anaesthetised by drugs, both chemical as well as social: father, mother, daughter and daughter with serious impairments that light up between the shadows, who reject the world of those who are scared to suffer and, ultimately, to live.
