Mozart and the battle of classes
This trilogy signed by Mozart and Da Ponte is one of the keystones in the history of the opera. At El Principal we have already had opportunity last season to see Cosí fan tutte, and this year we continue the brilliant cycle with The Marriage of Figaro, which is on the program for the first time at our theater, where it will be sung by a cast of great voices from the lyrical scenario. The monumental staging of José Luis Castro, with his architectural concept of stage space and his aesthetic inspired by Renaissance painting, is one of the highpoints in the history of El Maestranza of Seville, where it was staged in 1999. Key contributions are the costumes by Franca Squarciapino (winner of the Oscar for Cyrano de Bergerac) and the stage design by Ezio Frigerio, whose professional career spans 60 years and who has produced 250 stage designs. This is a combination legendary on the European scene. This timelessly modern, gala opera combines the battle of the classes and the battle of the sexes.
