Antoni Literes is one of the most universal Mallorcan composers. Master of La Capilla Real de Madrid (Royal Chapel of Madrid), he bequeathed us valuable creations. Particularly striking are his operas. True to its commitment to defend and disseminate Balearic musical heritage, this season the Teatre Principal rescues Los Elementos, in the exquisite production created in part by both the Fundación Juan March and the Teatro de la Zarzuela. Los Elementos is a paradigmatic example of chamber opera from the Spanish Baroque. In Palma you could not be in better hands: those of the Formación Forma Antiqva led by Aarón Zapico, a guarantee of rigorous and carefree historicism at the same time. The voices, exclusively female, are those of the sopranos Olalla Alemán, Aurora Peña, Eugenia Boix, Soledad Cardoso and Lucía Martín-Cartón, as well as the mezzo Marifé Nogales, all very lyrical and of the highest quality. Under the allegory of the four elements - air, fire, earth and water - Literes translates historical and political components connected with the War of Succession. Here, the staging carried out by Tomás Muñoz respects the theatrical components of that period of compositional splendour in Spain, giving it a focus on the importance of defending our environment. In addition to performances for the general public, the Principal has programmed an educational performance for secondary schools to attend.
