One of the most renowned Mallorcan companies, Iguana Teatre, returns to the stage of Teatre Principal seven seasons after its last production, La rara anatomia dels centaures de 2011. It does so with Mar de fons, which places us in the summer of 1936, when the republican troops landed on the east coast of Mallorca to regain the island, which had positioned itself alongside the military uprising. The operation was a failure and in three weeks the republicans had to re-embark.
In the escape, which was hasty and poorly organised, they left comrades on the ground, who were tortured and shot. Like the horizon of the sea, the waves that reach the coast originated by a thunderstorm that has already past, the remains of the summer of 1936 have shaken the Mallorcan society with consequences that are still very present eighty years later. All this explains the society that we are today, and allows us to glimpse the society that we could have been and that we will never be...
Mar de fons has been created based on real accounts from people involved in those events, both in the war of 1936 and in the long-lasting effects that they left behind.
