Based on the homonymous novel by Sebastià Alzamora, this work exudes the same strength as its two protagonists: the oligarch Joan March and the humanist Joan Mascaró.
The two were born in the same Mallorcan town, Santa Margalida, 17 years apart. Little else in common. They had completely different conceptions of the world and of time. Financier and smuggler Joan March worked compulsively in his business, becoming one of his time's richest and most powerful men. He could bring down governments and set conditions for Franco or Churchill.
Meanwhile, Joan Mascaró was the main translator and populariser of Hindu mystical thought into Western culture and a reference to the Beatles (among others), who dedicated the song The Inner Light to him. Up to 20 years, he devoted himself to translating a Hindu poem: Bhagavad Gita.
In Reis del món (Kings of the World), these two real and antagonistic characters meet in an office at the beginning of the 50s—money and power versus beauty and goodness research.
Reis del món is a reflective theatre of forceful characters in which the ethics of their performances are always at the forefront.
