What is it about bad guys that makes us enjoy watching them? What kind of morbidity is released inside us when we see bad deeds? Richard III is a staging plagued by envy, corruption of one kind or another, power struggles, greed, injustice, fake news, political lies, partisan bias... Well, just a normal day in 21st-century Spanish public life. Miguel del Arco and Antonio Rojano freely adapt Shakespeare’s classic play, creating a version that amplifies one of the things that was found in abundance in the original: comedy. Richard III will have you cracking up, but the laughter leaves a bitter aftertaste, with humour that takes an unempathetic look at the world that rules us. This kind of humour is the foundation of a world devoid of kindness.
