Roméo et Juliette is an opera by Charles Gounod with Jules Barbier and Michel Carré’s libretto. It is based on Shakespeare’s tragedy, which they modified by simplifying the plot and deleting some characters. It is composed of a prologue and five acts, and it was first released in April 1867, in the Théâtre-Lyrique Impérial de Châtelet in Paris.
