Cantata El Rei en Jaume I

The Choir of Teatre Principal de Palma has celebrated, during 2018, the first 35 years since its creation. The central event of the celebrations will be this concert with the Symphony Orchestra of the Balearic Islands where both formations, accomplices in all the opera seasons of the Teatre Principal, will perform, ten years after its premiere at the Teatre, the Cantata del Rei in Jaume , a composition d'Antoni Parera Fons (2017 National Music Award) with lyrics by Guillem Frontera, created in 2008 on behalf of the Consell de Mallorca on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the birth of King Jaume I. We recover this fundamental work in the creation of Balearic symphonic-choral, in which our choir, complete protagonist of the cantata - will be able to demonstrate all of their registers with a top rate cast. This piece narrates the conquest of Mallorca by Jaume I, also giving a voice to the conquered Muslim people of Mallorca. At the time of the premiere, the specialised critic praised the piece that he described as “a first class work where the author demonstrates craft and inspiration".
