The legendary British director Declan Donnellan directs again another work from Shakespeare in this coproduction with the Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico.

If Shakespeare set the bases for the modern human soul according to Harold Bloom, he began to develop most of the elements that would later define this conception of the human being in The Two Gentlemen of Verona. This play is one of the first comedies where he depicts the tensions between friendship and love, which was not a minor theme in the literature of the end of Renaissance.

Friendship defined as a form of love which excludes sex was a common topic treated from several perspectives. It was elevated to a high sentimental compromise in opposition to love relationships. Written little before Romeo and Juliet, they share many points of view and dramatic tensions. It also depicts one of the most emblematic comical servant characters, generating a model for posterior theatre as in the case of bard theatre.

Coproduced by the Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico, Cheek by Jowl, and La Zona
