Dialogues full of insinuations, racy songs, and the vaudeville muddles that were so common at the beginning of the twentieth century in this zarzuela that mixes operetta, revue, and cuplé.

Premiered on January 21st 1910 in the Teatro Eslava of Madrid, this zarzuela features an excellent score by Vicente Lleó and the libretto by Perrín and Palacios. On this occasion we have the honor to receive one of the most successful productions of the Teatro Arriaga, with Emilio Sagi as stage director and Carlos Aragón as musical director. A highly stunning show thanks to Daniel Bianco’s magnificent and impressive scenography, Gabriela Salaverri’s wonderful dressings, and Eduarde Bravo’s lights work.

La corte de Faraón is a one-act biblical operetta with five canvas that explains the story of Joseph, Jacob’s favorite son. His brothers sell him as a slave to the Egyptians, giving sense to the concept “Cain” (as “vengeful”). The wretched guy ends up at Putifar’s home, a man who has his passionate wife Lota in desperation due to his erectile dysfunction. The constant attempts to put out this fire with the young slave will menace the validity of his nickname “the chaste José”.
