The reason why Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo is deemed the first masterpiece in Opera history is because of the author’s dramatic genius who, for the very first time, was capable of establishing a subtle alliance between word, note and affection…

In L’Orfeo, Monteverdi provides the mythical figure of the poet with a prodigiously human and incredibly modern incarnation while the protagonist descends to the underworld in search of her sweetheart.

Yves Lenoir, the stage director, whose proven talent was already present in Carmen, premiered in 2020, has been able to find a new incarnation of the myth by setting Orfeo in one room at the Chelsea Hotel, a hotel inhabited by creatures directly taken from Andy Warhol’s factory.
